“The design of a piece of furniture can only be definite. It lacks fixed references – of scale, of ambient and of need. The human body has evolved so little than Egyptian chairs are still perfectly usable today. If we strip objects of their covering, we are left with the history of half a dozen forms. The imagination flies at low altitude among such forms, except when it is that of an impatient beginner.”
